Shake Shack Begins Robot Deliveries in Chicago Through Uber Eats

Shake Shack customers in Chicago can now receive orders via autonomous sidewalk robots under a new partnership involving Coco Robotics and Uber Eats.

The rollout marks Coco’s latest expansion into a major U.S. market as the company grows its urban delivery network.

Robots Added at Two Locations with More Planned

The service begins at two Chicago Shake Shack restaurants, with additional sites expected to adopt the technology.

Shake Shack executives said the option gives customers another way to receive orders, particularly during colder months, while reducing strain on store teams.

How the System Works

Shake Shack’s Uber Eats ordering platform connects directly with Coco’s delivery robots. Once a customer places an order:

  • The request goes straight to the kitchen with no added steps for employees
  • Staff hand off the completed order curbside
  • A Coco robot completes the final stretch, traveling along sidewalks to the customer’s chosen pickup point

The companies say the robots can help stores fulfill more orders during peak demand and maintain more consistent delivery times. Coco’s vehicles operate without extra fees or tips and are built to navigate busy urban foot traffic.

Partnership Aims for Faster and More Consistent Deliveries

Uber Eats said the collaboration deepens its existing relationship with Coco and supports broader efforts to expand autonomous delivery options.

Coco executives said the company’s role is to extend Shake Shack’s service model to delivery orders by offering an efficient and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional couriers.

Shake Shack plans to evaluate customer response as it considers expanding robot delivery across more locations in the city.
