Midwestern grocery chain Meijer is lowering the cost of Thanksgiving dinner this year, rolling out discounts on everything from frozen turkeys to pantry essentials in an effort to ease the strain on family budgets.
The retailer announced that Meijer brand frozen turkeys will sell for 49 cents per pound or less, alongside up to 50% discounts on more than 90 holiday grocery items.
The price cuts are part of an eight-week promotion that runs through December 31, covering key ingredients for a traditional holiday meal.
Holiday Essentials on Sale
Among the discounted Meijer brand items are:
Whole Kernel Golden Sweet Corn or Green Beans: $0.49
Turkey or Chicken Stuffing Mix: $0.99
100% Pure Canned Pumpkin or Jellied Cranberry Sauce: $1.09
Crescent Rolls, Cinnamon Rolls, and Biscuits: $1.49
Pie Crust: $1.99
Light Brown Sugar, 2-pound bag: $1.99
All-Purpose Flour, 5-pound bag: $2.19
Pure Granulated White Sugar, 4-pound bag: $2.89
Rick Keyes, Meijer’s President and CEO, said the company recognizes the importance of family gatherings during the holidays.
“We’re working hard to provide low prices on turkey and holiday staples so our customers can enjoy a special meal with their family and friends without having to worry about the cost,” he said.
Giving Back While Saving
In addition to the discounts, Meijer will donate the equivalent of one meal to its Simply Give food pantry partners for every purchase of Meijer brand, Frederik’s by Meijer, True Goodness by Meijer, or Purple Cow food products made between Nov. 23–29.
Shoppers can also save further through the mPerks loyalty program, which offers points for every dollar spent. These points can be redeemed for in-store coupons or fuel discounts at Meijer Express gas stations.
Chief Merchandising & Marketing Officer Don Sanderson added that the goal is to help families enjoy their favorite holiday dishes without financial stress.
“By providing reliable and affordable options, we hope to make holiday celebrations stress-free for our customers,” he said.
