Publix Super Markets has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of its Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream due to the possible presence of an undeclared egg allergen, posing a potential health risk to consumers with egg allergies.
The affected product is sold in half-gallon containers with the UPC code 41415 03043 and a sell-by date of “June 19, 2026 A.”
According to Publix, the product may actually contain Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream, which includes egg as an ingredient.
The issue stems from a packaging error that resulted in the product being distributed with the wrong lid, mismatching the contents inside.
The impacted ice cream was distributed to Publix stores in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida, with the exception of locations in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota.
Stores in Virginia and North Carolina are NOT affected by the recall.
Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs are at risk of a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the mislabeled product.
“As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix Director of Communications.
“To date, there have been no reported cases of illness.”
Consumers who purchased the recalled product are encouraged to return it to their local Publix store for a full refund.
For additional information, customers may contact Publix Customer Care at 1-800-242-1227 or visit www.publix.com.
Consumers with food allergies are advised to always check product packaging carefully and consult with health professionals if unsure about potential allergens.
