Hans Kissle Recalls Potato Salad Over Undeclared Wheat Labeling Error

Food manufacturer Hans Kissle has issued a recall on a limited batch of its prepared salads after a labeling error left undeclared wheat in the ingredient information, raising concerns for consumers with allergies.

As announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall involves 120 units of the company’s Red Bliss Potato Salad, packaged in 16-ounce clear plastic containers with white lids. The products were distributed to Stop & Shop grocery stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.

The packaging issue stems from a mix-up between two products: containers holding Tricolor Twist Pasta Salad were mislabeled with a Red Bliss Potato Salad lid. While the pasta salad contains wheat, the potato salad does not, meaning some consumers may unknowingly be exposed to the allergen.

The affected products can be identified by UPC code 036217673706 and two “Use By” dates printed on the lid: August 20, 2025, and September 25, 2025.

No illnesses or allergic reactions had been reported as of Friday, the company said. Hans Kissle emphasized that the issue was discovered internally, prompting a voluntary recall to prevent potential health risks.

Food allergies, particularly wheat sensitivity, can trigger reactions ranging from mild symptoms to severe, life-threatening conditions such as anaphylaxis. Officials urge those with wheat allergies not to consume the salad if purchased.

Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and return affected containers to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

For additional information, Hans Kissle has set up a customer service line available weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST at 978-556-4500.
