El Pollo Loco has officially opened its 500th restaurant, marking a significant milestone in the company’s national expansion. The new location at 825 E. Fillmore Street in Colorado Springs is the chain’s third in Colorado and opens to the public on Friday, October 17.
This opening comes during the company’s 50th anniversary year, showing a period of rapid growth beyond its Southern California roots.
“Reaching 500 locations is a landmark achievement for El Pollo Loco,” said CEO Liz Williams. “It’s a testament to the strength of our brand and delicious food, coupled with the passion and loyalty of our team members and guests.”
Expansion Beyond California
The fast-casual chain, known for its fire-grilled chicken and Mexican-inspired menu, plans to open 10 more locations in 2025. The majority of these will be outside of California, including new restaurants currently under construction in cities like El Paso, Dallas, Albuquerque, and the Greater Seattle area.
“Behind this milestone is one of the strongest development pipelines we’ve ever had,” said Chief Development Officer Tim Welsh. “We’re generating interest from franchisees who believe in the power of the brand.”
To mark the grand opening, El Pollo Loco is offering a special deal through its app. Loco Rewards Members can purchase a Two-Piece Chicken Meal for $5 on opening day, October 17.
The offer is limited to one per person and only valid at participating locations.
New Menu Items Reflect Broader Strategy
Alongside expansion efforts, the company has been updating its menu with new items aimed at offering more variety and flavor-forward options. Recent additions include:
- Mango Habanero Chicken
- Two new Double Chicken Burrito Bowls
- Expanded quesadilla selections
El Pollo Loco has also launched broader marketing and branding efforts, including a campaign video released in May and partnerships with athletes such as pro skater Paul “P-Rod” Rodriguez and NBA player Dalton Knecht to reach new audiences.
With the 500th location now open and more on the way, El Pollo Loco’s growth reflects what executives see as strong momentum toward becoming a national brand.
