Haifa Smoked Fish of Jamaica, NY, has issued a recall for two of its products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected products are Cold Smoked Salmon and Cold Smoked Seabass.
The products were sold in 8-ounce packages with the following lot numbers: Cold Smoked Salmon, Lot #219 and Cold Smoked Seabass, Lot #212.

The recalled products were distributed to retail stores and distributors nationwide. These items were vacuum-packed in flexible plastic on paperboard.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, and abdominal pain. The infection can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
The contamination was discovered after New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors tested the products and found Listeria present.
As of the announcement, no illnesses have been reported, however consumers who have purchased these products are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
