John Currence, a James Beard Award-winning chef known for his bold Southern cooking and outspoken presence in the culinary world, is bringing his popular restaurant Big Bad Breakfast (BBB) to Atlanta. The new location is set to open on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 1952 Howell Mill Road in Buckhead.
The Atlanta launch marks the 27th location for BBB, a breakfast and lunch concept that began in Oxford, Mississippi.
With restaurants now stretching from Destin to Durham, the brand has built a strong following across the South for its indulgent, from-scratch approach to traditional breakfast fare.
BBB’s menu includes fan favorites like shrimp and grits, the Big Bad Skillet, and house-cured Tabasco bacon. The restaurant is also known for its flaky biscuits and a cocktail program that includes its signature Big Bad Bloody Mary.
In addition to breakfast staples, the menu features hearty sandwiches, salads, and cocktails made with locally sourced ingredients.
Though known primarily for its food, the Atlanta location will also highlight regional identity through local artwork and Georgia-made spirits behind the bar.
Currence emphasized the importance of tying each BBB location to its community, saying the Buckhead space “could not feel like a more organic slot for us to fall into.”
To mark the restaurant’s opening day, Currence will be on-site to meet guests and sign copies of his cookbook, Big Bad Breakfast. He cited longtime admiration for Atlanta’s food scene and its chefs, naming Annie Quatrano, Linton Hopkins, and others as inspirations.
“It’s an inexplicable joy for us to be able to set up shop and celebrate Atlanta’s history and culture,” he said.
Big Bad Breakfast Atlanta will be open daily from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
