SONIC is releasing a new iced coffee drink nationwide next month after it was selected as the winning creation on NBC’s reality competition series On Brand with Jimmy Fallon.
The Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee, featuring cold brew, non-alcoholic bourbon caramel flavoring, whipped topping, caramel drizzle, and a miniature cowboy hat garnish will be available to all customers at SONIC locations starting November 3.
However, users of the SONIC App will get early access to the drink on October 20, priced at an average of $3.69 for a medium.
The coffee drink was originally developed as part of a marketing challenge on the NBC show, which brings together creative contestants to work on brand campaigns.
For its episode, SONIC tasked participants with crafting a conversation-starting beverage and accompanying jingle.
The Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee was created by New York-based social media strategist Bianca Fernandez and was ultimately selected by SONIC executives as the winning entry.
The final ideas were presented at a live drive-in event featuring Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne.
“It started as an idea dreamt up by a contestant, and it’s now a real drink for our guests to enjoy at our more than 3,400 locations,” said Ryan Dickerson, SONIC’s Chief Marketing Officer. “It’s another surprising way we’re pushing what’s possible in the drinks and cold coffee spaces.”
A playful twist on iced coffee
The drink’s country-themed presentation — complete with a miniature cowboy hat — reflects the playful aesthetic of the show and aims to stand out in a competitive market for flavored iced coffee.
Episodes of On Brand with Jimmy Fallon air Tuesdays and Fridays on NBC and are available to stream the following day on Peacock.
