Sprout Organics Expands Recall of Sweet Potato, Apple & Spinach Pouches

Potentially elevated lead levels prompt voluntary recall of additional product lots sold across various U.S. states.

Sprout Organics has expanded its recall of the Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach pouches due to concerns over potentially elevated lead levels.

The recall, which initially began on September 16, 2025, now includes additional lots of the 3.5-ounce pouches. The voluntary action follows routine testing that flagged the presence of lead in the affected products.

Exposure to lead, even in small amounts, poses a risk to young children, potentially causing developmental issues and other long-term health concerns, particularly with extended exposure. While no illnesses have been reported to date, the company is urging consumers who purchased the affected product to return it for a full refund.

The affected product is sold under the name “Sprout Organics® Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach” and is identified by the following lot codes and expiration dates:

  • Best Before: Oct 29, 2025, Lot Code: 4212
  • Best Before: Oct 30, 2025, Lot Code: 4213
  • Best Before: Dec 04, 2025, Lot Code: 4282
  • Best Before: Feb 04, 2026, Lot Code: 4310

These pouches were sold in Walgreens stores, various independent retailers across 27 U.S. states, and online platforms. The product was not distributed to major retail chains other than Walgreens.

The recall applies exclusively to the specific lots listed above. No other Sprout Organics products are affected by this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are urged to check the lot codes on the bottom strip of the pouch and return any affected items to the store where they were purchased.

The recall follows routine sampling, which identified potential lead contamination in the affected batches. While the health risk associated with low-level exposure is typically minimal, prolonged exposure, especially in children, can lead to increased blood lead levels, potentially impacting learning, development, and overall health.

Sprout Organics has not reported any illnesses tied to the affected lots, and the company is working to ensure the safety of its products moving forward.
